A 100,000 more premises around Australia will soon be able to access fibre-to-the-premises (FTTP) service on the NBN™.

In October 2020, NBN Co announced more premises with underperforming fibre-to-the-node (FTTN) connections would soon obtain access to the faster fibre-to-the-premises.

The service will allow customers to get access to greater speed broadband plans with up to 50Mbps.  However, with the recent announcement, NBN Co plans to introduce residential plans with speed up to 1Gbps however you will need FTTP service. The new installations have been chosen based on forecast demand and convenient installation services.

NBN Co. anticipate a strong demand for higher speed, where it can implement speed, responsiveness, cost-effectiveness and in a way the investment is most likely to positively contribute to the national economy.

NBN Co is engaged in consultation with retail service providers who sell access to the network.

They are in the process by which eligible customers will be informed of and can inquire about availability and express their interest in ordering a higher speed broadband.

This means that telco’s will most likely contact their subscribers if faster internet speed is available in their area.

The future plan is to have at least eight million locations, three quarter of fixed line network and connections where they can access the highest available speeds by 2023.
